Installer sizes are official Apple Silicon downloads, checked September 2026. Idle RAM is after launch with no query running. Memory in use is with one database connection open. RowDex idle is our published figure (< 60 MB). Other RAM figures are typical ranges for that stack — not a same-Mac lab run.

How we measured

  • Installer sizes are Content-Length from official Apple Silicon macOS downloads.
  • RowDex idle RAM is the published product figure: under 60 MB after launch.
  • Idle RAM = app open, no query running. Memory in use = one database connection open.
  • Other RAM figures are typical ranges for that stack (Tauri, native, Electron, Java, IntelliJ). They are not a stopwatch test on one Mac.
  • DataGrip is a JetBrains product written in Kotlin and Java on the IntelliJ platform. JetBrains recommends 3 GB available for the IDE.

FAQ

Are the RAM numbers from a lab test?

RowDex idle RAM is our published figure (under 60 MB). The others are typical ranges for that stack. We do not pretend we timed every app on one machine.

What is the difference between idle RAM and memory in use?

Idle is after launch with no query. Memory in use is with one database connection open — closer to daily work.

What language is DataGrip built with?

Kotlin and Java, on the IntelliJ platform, with JDBC for database connections. That JVM stack is why the DMG is 970 MB and why it often needs 1–3 GB of RAM.

Where are the per-tool comparisons?

Each alternative page has a feature table and a head-to-head size comparison. This page is the overview.
