Quick start: connect and run your first query
Connect RowDex to a database and run your first SQL query in five minutes. Covers adding a connection, browsing tables and running a query.
This walkthrough connects to a database you already have and runs a query. It takes about five minutes.
Add a connection
Click New connection in the sidebar, or press ⌘⇧N. Choose your database type, then fill in host, port, username and password.
Test it
Click Test connection. RowDex tries to connect without saving anything, so you can fix a typo before it becomes a saved profile. Problems? See Troubleshooting.
Save and connect
Save the connection. It appears in the sidebar; click it to connect. The first connection can take a moment while RowDex reads your schema for autocomplete.
Browse your tables
Expand the connection in the sidebar to see schemas, tables and views. Click a table to open its data, or open its structure to see columns, keys and indexes.
Run a query
Open a query tab and write a statement such as
SELECT * FROM users LIMIT 50;. Press ⌘↵ to run it. Results appear in the grid below.Save it for later
Press ⌘S to quick-save the query. You can find it again in your saved queries and re-run it any time.
