Build dashboards from SQL in RowDex: add widgets as charts, numbers or tables, refresh them automatically and arrange them per connection.

A dashboard is a set of widgets, and every widget is a SQL query shown as a chart, a number or a table. It reads straight from your live connection, so there is no CSV export and nothing to go stale.

Create a dashboard#

  1. Open the dashboard view

Connect to a database, then switch the workspace from SQL to Dashboard. Dashboards belong to the connection shown as the Data source.

  2. Name it

Enter a name under New dashboard name and create it. You can rename or delete it later.

  3. Add a widget

Click Add widget. Give it a title, paste the SQL, choose how it looks and how often it refreshes, and save.

Choose a visualization#

TypeUse it for
Metric (number)A single KPI, such as total orders today.
LineA trend over time, such as daily signups.
AreaA trend where volume matters, such as requests per hour.
BarComparing categories, such as revenue by country.
PieA breakdown of a whole, such as orders by status.
TableA list you want to read row by row.

For charts, pick which result column supplies the labels (the X axis) and which columns supply the values. For a pie chart, choose the label and the value column. The preview updates as you choose.

Refresh#

  • Set a refresh interval on each widget. The minimum is 10 seconds.
  • Switch the dashboard between Manual and Auto. In Auto, widgets refresh on their own interval. In Manual, click Run all widgets or refresh a single widget.
  • A widget whose query fails shows the error on the card, so one bad query never hides the others.

Work with widgets#

  • Drag a widget by its handle to move it.
  • View SQL to see the query behind a card.
  • Fullscreen a widget for a closer look.
  • Edit to change the query, type, color or refresh interval, or Delete to remove it.
