The editor is where most of your time goes, so it is built to stay out of the way. Each tab is a separate query with its own results, and your tabs are restored when you relaunch.

Schema-aware autocomplete in the query editor.

Tabs#

  • Open a new tab for a new query. Each tab remembers its connection, so you can keep staging and production open together.
  • Double-click a tab title to rename it. Right-click a tab to close all tabs.
  • Press to close the current tab.
  • Basic allows 2 query tabs at once by default. Pro and Lifetime are unlimited.

Autocomplete and hover docs#

Suggestions come from your real schema, not a generic keyword list. RowDex understands the structure of what you are typing, including aliases, joins, subqueries and CTEs, so it offers the columns that are actually in scope.

  • Tables, views and columns from the connected database, with type and key information.
  • Functions for your engine's dialect, with signature help as you type the arguments.
  • Hover over a table, column or function to see its definition, columns, keys and description.
  • Works across PostgreSQL, Redshift, MySQL, MariaDB and SQLite, each with its own dialect rules.

Run a query#

ActionShortcutWhat runs
RunThe selected text; if nothing is selected, the statement at the cursor.
Run all statementsEvery statement in the editor, one after another.
StopStop buttonCancels the query that is currently running.

Format#

Press to tidy the current query. Placeholders such as :user_id or {{date}} are protected while formatting, so they come back exactly as you wrote them.

Transactions#

Click Begin in the toolbar to open a transaction in the current tab. Statements from that tab then run on one connection until you click Commit or Rollback. It is the safe way to try an UPDATE and inspect the result before deciding to keep it.

Insert another query with @#

Type @ in the editor to search your saved and recent queries and insert one. See Saved queries and history.

Will RowDex ask before running DELETE or DROP?
On connections marked as production or read-only, yes: risky statements are flagged and you confirm first. Other connections run immediately. See Safe mode.
Does it support multiple statements in one tab?
Yes. Press Run to execute the statement at the cursor or your selection, or Run all statements to execute the whole script.
Can I change the editor font and word wrap?
Yes. Open Preferences and go to the Query Editor tab to change font size, word wrap and the minimap.
